6 Simple Ways to Thank a Veteran

At MKD Electric and Wesa Automation, we strongly believe in supporting our Vets. We participate in Veterans career fairs, and a large number of our team members are former servicemen. This Veterans Day, we wanted to take the opportunity to share some of our ideas on how to thank our Vets for protecting our freedom. Following are 6 simple ways you can thank a Vet for their service to this country.

1. Greenlight a Vet
   Change one light to green in a visible location-on your porch, in your home, or at your office-and keep it glowing every day as a symbol of appreciation and support for our veterans.

2. Help homeless Vets get back on their feet
   The Veteran Exiting Homelessness Program, a collaborative effort between Military Outreach USA and the Department of Veterans Affairs, seeks to provide Move‐In‐Essentials to the veteran as they transition to permanent housing.

3. Buy a “Buddy Poppy” from your local VFW member
   The VFW Buddy Poppy program provides compensation to disabled and needy veterans who assemble the poppies, provides financial assistance in maintaining state and national veterans’ rehabilitation and service programs and partially supports the VFW National Home For Children.

4. Donate your frequent flyer miles
   Your frequent flier miles can help get airline tickets to injured and ill service members and their families.

5. Sponsor a wreath for a Veteran’s grave.
   A small, simple gesture to honor our fallen heroes. Honor veterans in your local community by sponsoring a wreath that will be placed on a Veteran’s grave, or volunteer to place wreaths on a veteran’s grave.

6. Just say, “Thanks.”
   As the daughter of a proud Vietnam Vet, I literally saw my dad stop hundreds of times to thank fellow Vets for their service; he never passed up the opportunity. It only takes a second to shake their hand and say “thank you,” but means a lot.
