Optimize Solar Renewables ROI through Effective O&M Service

Additional Topics

You upgraded to renewable energy sources. Your business is moving in a positive direction and you feel good about the choice to move ‘off the grid’. But are you maximizing your investment?

Solar panels and other renewable technology require regular maintenance and upkeep, which you know.

But is your service provider helping you realize your maximum ROI?

You invested a lot of money, time and company resources into this transition to renewable energy. Your service provider should be considered part of that investment as well.

In a report from Green Tech Media, owners of solar panels can pay 30 percent or more than planned if their current contract or service provider is not offering corrective maintenance as part of their offering.

Additionally, O&M services that don’t account for other risks and management of environmental impacts to panels can result in 25 percent reduction in performance.

These numbers, over the long term, can have a dramatic affect on your overall investment return and even lifespan of equipment. Proper maintenance of inverters, panel cleaning and corrective maintenance can extend equipment life substantially.

If you’re considering a new service provider or looking to set up O&M services, MKD outlines some things we like to consider when building a contract for our clients.

Solar OM ROI

Site visits and Cleaning

MKD prefers to build in regular site visits to analyze whether equipment is producing power as it should. Additionally, regular cleaning will increase annual solar energy production by 5 to 10 percent depending on environmental conditions and weather changes that account for snow, dust, etc.

Electrical system checks

MKD insists on checking main electrical systems, inverter output and ongoing maintenance of all key operational components.

Other Corrective and Predictive Maintenance to consider

  • Audit energy production
  • Evaluative network voltage and frequency output
  • Inventory and spare parts management
  • Predictive and Preventative Maintenance
  • Warranty enforcement
  • Drone surveying to identify operational issues – includes infrared scanning

If you’re operating an O&M program that might not be totally optimizing your solar output, let MKD assess how we can help and make sure your ROI in renewables is everything you planned it to be.
